Holding Hearts Bloc is a group of Portland neighbors doing mutual aid. We're volunteers, not a company or a government agency. This page explains what information we collect through hhbloc.com, how we use it, and how to ask us to change or delete it.
Questions or requests: holdinghearts@proton.me, or DM us on Instagram at @holdingheartsbloc.
What we collect
When you ask for help or offer help. Our form asks for your name (a first name is fine), a way to reach you (email or phone), what kind of help it is, how soon you need it, and a message. Share only what we need to help. You don't have to tell us about your health, immigration status, finances or anything else you'd rather keep private.
When you ask for someone else. If you ask on behalf of a neighbor, please check with them first and share only what they're comfortable with.
When you subscribe. If you sign up for email alerts about new asks, we collect your email address. We send a confirmation email first, and you're not subscribed until you click it.
Admin accounts. Our volunteers sign in to manage the site. We store their email address and first name. A volunteer's first name may appear as the author of blog posts.
Technical information. Our site loads fonts from Google Fonts, and the donate page loads its Venmo QR code from a QR code service (goqr.me). Our hosting provider keeps standard request logs. All of these involve your IP address and browser details. We don't use analytics trackers, advertising pixels or tracking cookies.
How we use it
- To read your request or offer, reach out to you, and match neighbors who need things with neighbors who have them
- To send a confirmation that we got your message
- To send email alerts to subscribers when there's a new or urgent ask
The public needs board
To get help moving, we sometimes post a summary of a request on our public needs board, share it on Instagram and other social media, and email it to subscribers. We never post your name, contact information or exact location. We write the summary ourselves and keep it general, for example "A family of four needs groceries."
If you don't want your ask posted at all, say so in your message and we'll keep it private. If you see a post about you that you want changed or taken down, email us and we'll do it.
Who we share it with
- Our volunteers, who need to see requests to help.
- The neighbors we connect you with, but only the details needed to make the connection, and only after checking with you.
- Service providers that run our site and email: Lovable and Supabase (hosting and database), Lovable's email service (confirmations and notifications), Brevo (subscriber alerts), and Proton Mail (our inbox).
- When required. We may disclose information if the law requires it or to protect someone's safety.
We never sell your information, and we never share it with landlords, employers, government agencies or anyone else outside the help you asked for unless the law requires it.
Donations
Donations go through Venmo, which is owned by PayPal, and Venmo's privacy policy applies to that payment. Holding Hearts Bloc is not a registered charity, so donations are not tax-deductible.
How long we keep it
We delete request and offer form submissions within 12 months, or sooner if you ask. Public board posts stay up as a record of what our community has done together, unless you ask us to take one down. Subscriber emails stay on our list until you unsubscribe.
Your choices
- Unsubscribe with the link at the bottom of any alert email. One click and you're off the list.
- Ask what we have, fix it or delete it by emailing holdinghearts@proton.me.
Children
This site is not directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them. Families with kids are welcome to ask for help, but a parent or another adult should fill out the form.
Safety
If you're in danger or facing an emergency, call 911. For other urgent needs, call 211 to reach local resources.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top.
